Love Poetry — 30 November 2011

A smile and a wink
So simply began
A stolen kiss in the stairwell
A midnight cup of coffee

Oh hopeless Tanguero
You fed me your chamuyo
You led me through the milonga
No one else on the floor
Just you, me and Gardel

Salsa wasn’t our rhythm
And in my heels I was taller
to the twang of the bandoneon
I felt your hot breath on my neck

Oh suave Tanguero
I was almost fooled by your chamuyo
Together we moved through the milonga
No one else on the floor
Just you, me and Gardel

Danced to the theme of seduction
To the music of another time
Your arms firmly drove my step
I waited in anticipation for your next move

I closed my eyes and felt your beat
Suddenly we moved as one
You were no longer the leader, and I the led
We were one movement, one moment, one breath

Oh enchanting Tanguero
I crave your chamuyo
With eyes closed in our own milonga
No one else on the floor
Just the beats of our hearts and Gardel
